]]><![CDATA[Spring Concert]]>Thu, 05 Apr 2012 08:10:40 -0800http://www.euphoriagvsu.com/1/post/2012/04/spring-concert3.htmlIt's that time again - the school year is quickly winding down, and Euphoria is anxiously preparing for its fifth annual Spring Concert. 

Scheduled for Saturday, April 21 at 9pm in GVSU's Cook DeWitt Auditorium, this will be a milestone concert for Euphoria. To help celebrate five years of singing, Central Harmony from Central Michigan University will be providing the opening entertainment and over 30 Euphoria alumni are rumored to be in attendance. Expect to hear some of our most popular pieces throughout the last two semesters - everything from "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley, to our ICCA set from February, to some very special recognition for our graduating senior(s). 

Doors open at 8:45, $5 at the door or $3 for students. Come early - you won't want to miss this one :)

In tandem with our upcoming spring concert, Euphoria is also co-hosting a benefit concert with Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity to raise money for Relay For Life.

Billed as a revue of student music groups at GVSU, the Relay for Life Benefit Concert will feature many of the campus's premiere ensembles. Euphoria, GV GrooVe!, a saxophone quartet, and many others will be in attendance for this night of musical greatness.

First off is the inclusion of two new members - Caleb Van Ek and Addie Clock. We're extremely excited to have them on board, and can't wait to get next semester off to a great start!

Sadly, our vocal percussion extraordinaire, Andy Rodriguez will be leaving us to embark on a fun-filled internship in the exciting world of real estate. We wish him all the best!

Performances are already being scheduled for next semester - be on the lookout for everything new Euphoria is about to bring!

It is with great joy that I'm able to announce Euphoria has been accepted to the International Competition of A Capella Quarterfinals for the third year in a row! As we begin preparing for this performance, keep us in mind and please support us by attending our shows throughout the coming months. (Midwest ICCA Competitions are traditionally held in January or February.) We love you all!

]]><![CDATA[Auditions(!)]]>Mon, 14 Nov 2011 10:23:08 -0800http://www.euphoriagvsu.com/1/post/2011/11/auditions.htmlAs with any great family, sometimes your great uncle Paul receives a calling to become a lifetime missionary in South Africa and has to leave the country, leaving a significant decline in gift-giving at Christmas time. 

While we in Euphoria require no Christmas gifts from our members, we do enjoy the musical gifts each of our members bring. (See what I did there?) For those of you who watch the 25 Days of Christmas on ABC Family, you know that the more gifts given, the better. And that's why we're looking for new members to join the ranks of Euphoria next semester! 

Of course, there are stipulations. We'd like our new member(s) to be human. No offense primates, but until one of our members dedicates their life to being a California surfer, we've got all of our spots covered. Secondly, we'd like for this person to enjoy being around other people. It's awfully hard to sing in a performing group if you don't enjoy society. On that, it would be FANTASTIC if this person could sing. Shower and opera singers alike, we'd love to hear what you've got. 

Now, of course the question on everyone's mind - what if I'm a beatboxer? The answer here is simple: we love you, and we want you to audition too. 

Interested? Thought you might be. Check out the events listed on our auditions page, and come to them. Your audition experience might just be - you guessed it - euphoric.

Consider this to be the narrative of the life of Euphoria. Here's the "why" to the "where", the "how" to the "what", the "pella" to the "aca".

Last night, Sigma Alpha Iota and the Allendale High School Performing Arts Center hosted "Acapell-off", a fortitudinous battle to the death between ten groups from across the great state of Michigan. We held daggers ready as the competition began, each group proudly asserting their best guitar noise, over-the-top theatrics, and general affability. 

There are few places in this world like an acapella competition, and last night was easily one of the best I've been a part of after three years of singing in Euphoria. After singing "My Heart With You" by The Rescues, and "Little White Church" by Little Big Town, we walked away with trophies for both the top mixed (co-ed) group, and the top group overall. Clearly, excitement abounds.

From here, we look forward to the final weeks of our fall semester, with holiday music soon to dominate our set, and impromptu caroling soon to be our venue of choice. We hope to see you all out there!
